On Monday, May 5, 2025, the Center of Desert Studies at the University of Anbar organized a scientific seminar entitled:
"Cultivating Some Tropical Plant Species in Iraq as a Step to Combat Desertification for a Sustainable Environment."
The seminar was attended by Professor Dr. Atheer Anwar Shareef, Assistant President for Administrative Affairs, Professor Dr. Nihad Mohammad Abod, Director of the Center, and a wide of researchers from various university departments. The seminar covered several topics, including the nature of the desert environment in the western Iraqi region and the need to preserve the vegetation cover, given its role in reducing and stabilizing soil erosion. The center's experiences in cultivating tropical plants in Iraq, such as papaya, dragon fruit, and Indian almonds, were also reviewed.
